Marv's Way
Here's a peek at the Vegas veg file for the Marv's Way sequence. In Photopaint, I created 10 close ups and 10 medium shots of Marv on a green background. For each of the 10 stills I inserted a different mouth which I borrowed from the Bilbo Baggins phoneme series. Each still was meticulously placed under the music track to match the vocals. I don't think I ever counted how many events I ended up with, but if you look at what's visible on the time line you can get an idea that it's a lot. I also created a set of closed eyes, raised eyebrows and arms which either popped in and out or animated with key frames to give Marv that ever so life like appearance. I rendered this veg as an uncompress AVI and chromo keyed it as a new track over a scrolling background in the main project.
Were I to do this project again today, I would have saved the stills as Photoshop psd files with transparent background and slightly feathered edges. This provides a much cleaner overlay than chromo key with zero fringing. Now, with Vegas 6.0 I could have nested this veg over into the main project without the bulky avi.
