Well the Ultra is in the books.  I went out with the leaders and was right there for the first 7 miles with the two of them.  But they were the real deal and I paid the price to try to stay with them big time.....Lesson Learned.  The first part of the course is much harder than I anticipated.  I took a wrong turn just before the half way turn, and it cost me about 15 minutes.  I was quite frustrated.  When I tried to make up for it I started cramping in the stomach as it was beginning to sour.  I lost a lot of time because I couldn't run well do to my stomach issues.  Then over the next 2 miles or more I threw up 3 times.....but I started to feel better.  I got to the place where Volker and I ran to on a training run we did three weeks prior and it was an emotional boost for I knew the trail from there and knew it was only 14 miles to go.

But I would take in Gatorade and throw it back up within a few minutes.  But after a long time without taking a drink I had to try to replace the liquids inside of me.  I would drink and throw up until 10 miles to go........that's when I ran out of fluids to drink.  From there on in it was a sufferfest as I dug down to at least break 6 hours.  I did it but with major walking and running intervals.  You know you have bonked when you have to walk some of the down hills!!!  I was looking for experience and learned a lot out there.  I am happy with my day, and will take away many positives from it.   I ran out of water with 10 miles to go and paid for it big time.  And what the hell.......I got my first Ultra in the books!!!   Sore but nothing injured on race day and recovery is going well.  Thanks for accepting my entry, It was nice to meet everyone.

Run Forever,
